From James Arness.com, we read: "It seems to be my time to be honored for past accomplishments. On January 7, 2000, the Army presented me with the medals that I received during my time in the service. The ceremony was truly a moving experience. The presentation was made by the Honorable Louis Caldera, Secretary of the Army. I received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, and a Rifleman's Badge. I was in the 3rd Infantry Division and was wounded at Anzio. This presentation was truly an honor for me and reminded me how much my country means to me.""This case contains my medals and the inscription: Presented to: James K. Aurnes By the men and women of the United State Army to fellow soldier for his valor and selfless service. From March 28, 1943 To Jan. 29, 1995."
